)Urdu: (احمدندیم قاسمی) born Ahmad Shah Awan(Urdu: احمد شاہ اعوان on November 20, 1916 –died July 10, 2006) was a legendary Urdu and English language Pakistani poet, journalist, literary critic, dramatist and short story author. He wrote 50 books including poetry, fiction, criticism, journalism and art. He was a major figure in contemporary Urdu literature. His poetry stood out among his contemporaries' work for its unflinching humanism, and his Urdu afsana (novel) work is considered by some second only to Prem Chand in its masterful depiction of rural culture. He was also editor and publisher of literary magazine Funoon for almost half a century, grooming generations of new writers. He wrote many English poems and short stories. His poem The Feed is included in the syllabus of intermediate classes in Pakistan. He received awards the Pride of Performance in 1968 and Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 1980 for his literary work.

ٹوٹتے جاتے ہیں سب آئنہ خانے میرے

وقت کی زد میں ہیں یادوں کے خزانے میرے

زندہ رہنے کی ہو نیّت تو شکایت کیسی

میرے لب پر جو گِلے ہیں وہ بہانے میرے

رخشِ حالات کی باگیں تو مرے ہاتھ میں تھیں

صرف میں نے کبھی احکام نہ مانے میرے

میرے ہر درد کو اس نے اَبَدیّت دے دی

یعنی کیا کچھ نہ دیا مجھ کو خدا نے میرے

میری آنکھوں میں چراغاں سا ہے مستقبل کا

اور ماضی کا ہیولٰی ہے سَرہانے میرے

تُو نے احسان کیا تھا تو جتایا کیوں تھا

اس قدر بوجھ کے لائق نہیں شانے میرے

راستہ دیکھتے رہنے کی بھی لذّت ہے عجیب

زندگی کے سبھی لمحات سہانے میرے

جو بھی چہرہ نظر آیا ترا چہرہ نکلا

تو بصارت ہے مری، یار پرانے میرے

سوچتا ہوں مری مٹّی کہاں اڑتی ہوگی

اِک صدی بعد جب آئیں گے زمانے میرے

صرف اِک حسرتِ اظہار کے پر تو ہیں ندیم

میری غزلیں ہوں کہ نظمیں کہ فسانے میرے
