)Urdu: (احمدندیم قاسمی) born Ahmad Shah Awan(Urdu: احمد شاہ اعوان on November 20, 1916 –died July 10, 2006) was a legendary Urdu and English language Pakistani poet, journalist, literary critic, dramatist and short story author. He wrote 50 books including poetry, fiction, criticism, journalism and art. He was a major figure in contemporary Urdu literature. His poetry stood out among his contemporaries' work for its unflinching humanism, and his Urdu afsana (novel) work is considered by some second only to Prem Chand in its masterful depiction of rural culture. He was also editor and publisher of literary magazine Funoon for almost half a century, grooming generations of new writers. He wrote many English poems and short stories. His poem The Feed is included in the syllabus of intermediate classes in Pakistan. He received awards the Pride of Performance in 1968 and Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 1980 for his literary work.

تیری گفتار میں تو پیار کے تیور کم تھے

کبھی جھانکا تری آنکھوں میں تو ہم ہی ہم تھے

لمس کے دم سے بصارت بھی، بصیرت بھی ملی

چھُو کے دیکھا تو جو پتھر تھے نرے ریشم تھے

تیری یادیں کبھی ہنستی تھیں، کبھی روتی تھیں

میرے گھر کے یہی ہیرے تھے، یہی نیلم تھے

برف گرماتی رہی، دھوپ اماں دیتی رہی

دل کی نگری میں جو موسم تھے، ترے موسم تھے

مری پونجی مرے اپنے ہی لہو کی تھی کشید

زندگی بھر کی کمائی میرے اپنے غم تھے

آنسوؤں نے عجب انداز میں سیراب کیا

کہیں بھیگے ہوئے آنچل، کہیں باطن نم تھے

جن کے دامن کی ہوا میرے چراغوں پہ چلی

وہ کوئی اور کہاں تھے وہ مرے ہمدم تھے

میں نے پایا تھا بس اتنا ہی صداقت کا سُراغ

دُور تک پھیلتے خاکے تھے، مگر مبہم تھے

میں نے گرنے نہ دیا مر کے بھی معیارِ وقار

ڈوبتے وقت مرے ہاتھ مرے پرچم تھے

میں سرِ عرش بھی پہنچا تو سرِ فرش رہا

کائناتوں کے سب امکاں مرے اندر ضم تھے

عمر بھر خاک میں جو اشک ہوئے جذب ندیم

برگِ گل پر کبھی ٹپکے تو وہی شبنم تھے
